My Approach
I understand that entering into counselling may feel like a big step, and understandably, you may be concerned about what the process involves. Simply put, counselling allows you to explore your thoughts and feelings in a safe, non-judgemental space, giving you the opportunity to see the issues that are bothering you more clearly and find ways to make the intolerable tolerable.
My initial training is grounded in purist Person-Centred therapy; however, I work as an integrative counsellor.
Person centred therapy focuses on the clients’ experience of themselves, rather than the counsellor being an “expert” in them. The theory focus’ on the client’s potential and ability to find growth within and believes that, given the right conditions, a person can reach their full potential and become their true authentic self.
Being integrative means I draw from different theoretical modalities such as psychodynamic, cognitive behavioural and existential theory, alongside others, to enable me to tailor the counselling and therapy I provide to your specific needs. I endeavour to support my clients to feel empowered and able to take control of their lives in the way that they want. I always aim to work collaboratively and at a pace that suits you.
My role is to facilitate your counselling journey by giving you my full attention and professional experience. I aim to ensure you feel truly heard and understood by providing a welcoming, relaxed and non-judgemental space to explore your experiences, reframe unhelpful thoughts and gain empowerment in your own wellbeing. If you decide I am the right counsellor for you, together we will use a range of tools and techniques to support you to move towards your goals.
I welcome feedback from my clients and like to check in with how they feel sessions are going. Whether you have short or long-term therapy, we are always working towards the time when you can feel confident to continue your journey without me. Though the door is always open if you feel that there’s more work to be done together.
It is astonishing how elements that seem insoluble become soluble when someone listens, how confusions that seem irremediable turn into relatively clear flowing streams when one is heard.
